Vixy Reinard is a minor character in the Star Fox franchise. Her only appearance was in the 1993 Star Fox comics, where she was married to Fox McCloud Sr. (later known as James McCloud), and was the mother of Fox McCloud Jr.

Biography

Very little is known about Vixy's personality and character, but she was described as being very beautiful and caring, and attracted the attentions of Andross, who became infatuated with her. Unfortunately, she was already in love with Fox McCloud Sr. and had a son, although in jealousy Andross never believed that Fox Sr. deserved her. As it was, Andross planned to get rid of his rival by installing a spare bomb in Fox Sr.'s car. Unexpectedly, Vixy used the car that day instead, oblivious to Andross' actions. She was tragically killed in the explosion, leaving Andross and Fox Sr. stricken with grief.

Andross mistakes Fara Phoenix for Vixy Reinard.

Years later, Andross's clone mistakes Fara Phoenix for Vixy, causing him to spill the ape's dark secret concerning Vixy's death. She was avenged by her son Fox McCloud, after he went into an infuriated ramping on Andross due to being enraged from hearing this.

Appearance

Vixy's first name comes from "vixen", which is a term for a female fox. Her appearance is only seen in a photograph that Fox keeps of her; however, Fox believed that Fara Phoenix had a close resemblance to her. This may imply that, although she is clearly a red fox in the photo, she may have been part fennec.

Notes

• Vixy's death means that Andross was supposedly responsible for the demise of both of Fox's parents, with different motivations; Vixy's death was unintentional, whereas Andross clearly had a hatred for Fox Sr.
• Despite Nintendo Power's extended storyline being overall incompatible with the current series, Vixy (at least as a character) is one aspect from the comic that can easily fit in with the current timeline.
• According to Takaya Imamura, Fox's mother is still alive, contradicting the comic. When Fox decided to take over the team and follow in his father's footsteps, she was vehemently against it, presumably out of fear of losing him as she lost James since he was the only surviving member in the immediate family, and the two became estranged. However, even while living far away on Papetoon, she may be supporting her son from behind the scenes.

Trivia

• Her last name comes from the "Reynard Cycle", a medieval French book about the adventures of a clever fox named Reynard (fr: Renart). The book was so popular in the Middle Ages that it gave its name to the animal (French for fox is renard, formerly goupil).
• With this in mind, it may provide a slight explanation for Fox's first name.
• Vixy is the first named character to be a mother in the entire Star Fox franchise, the second Krystal, who becomes the wife of Fox McCloud in some endings of Star Fox Command and is the mother of Marcus in one ending, the third being Vivian Hare, the wife of Peppy Hare and the mother of Lucy in the same game, and the fourth being Amanda in the same game, who is the wife of Slippy Toad and mother of many children, one of whom would join Marcus McCloud's new Star Fox team in an ending where Fox and Krystal leave.
  • Like Vivian, Vixy is also deceased.
  • Unlike the latter three, Vixy does not appear in any games.
