Hey all.  I apologize for this being a short blog, I promised that I'd do one today, so i'm stuck to getting it done before I go to bed.  Let's jump in.

As few of you might know, the Star Fox fan project "A Fox in Space" had its patreon yanked off by Nintendo recently.  It's among a lengthy list of Nintendo's recent purges of copyrighted material on YouTube (and elsewhere), but this one got me wondering.

Does Fan-Fiction harm a franchise?

Yes, your disgusting fetish fanons hurt the series, and people adamantly and undoubtedly believing that the Star Fox team have metal legs disgust most real fans of the series.  However when genuine and serious work goes into said fan fiction, does it help or hurt?

In my opinion, creative ideas such as "A Fox in Space" help the Star Fox franchise.  This series took the base idea, and turned it into a classic 80's handwritten adult themed cartoon, drawing fans from the genre into Star Fox.  It shouldn't have been attacked by Nintendo.  I understand that most copyright flagging is done both automatically, and by the low ranking employees of companies leading to a very "by the books" flagging system.  I personally think it should change in the future however.

Caution, minor language ahead.

The fans grow, so should the system.

Uncreative ideas, can have the same effect in reverse however.  I don't really need to link bad Star Fox fan fiction, because either you've already seen enough, or you will (because it's too rampant online).

Since the question varies from case to case, so should Nintendo's policy on handling cases like this.
