Scrappyworms are enemies that only appear in "Star Fox Zero", where they are found on the Titania Missions; A Fox in the Desert, and more specifically in the Mission; The Search For Peppy.
Appearance[]
Scrappyworms are giant monsters that look like worms. They have a mouth with three claw-like jaws. Their armor is covered in hard plating that can deflect the Landmaster's shots. A purple orb can be seen in the creature's mouth, unleashing a tongue-like tractor beam that can draw the Scrappyworm's target into its jaws. It has a red segment halfway between its body and the point that the sand is at when it rears its head.
In the game[]
Scrappyworms are ambushers, having their whole body buried in the ground, their spot being shown by a slight depression in the sand. However, when Fox drives his Landmaster too close to where it is waiting, the Scrappyworm rears its head and breaches the surface, pulling Fox's tank in with a tractor beam. If it touches the Scrappyworm's maw, the Landmaster will take damage. To defeat Scrappyworms, Fox must shoot at the red segment, causing it to turn orange, then yellow. Defeating them causes them to vanish, leaving behind their armor around their former hiding spot. Even after they rear their heads, Scrappyworms will not move from their spot. The first of them does not try to attack Fox directly, instead trying to eat Slippy.
Comparable[]
The Scrapworm is a bigger version of Scrapworm that serves as the Mission boss, and presumably the enemy force commander, although it has five "jaws" forming its mouth and its outer shell has bulges that must be shot to enrage it into attempting to eat the Landmaster.
Behing the scenes[]
- Scrappyworms bear some resemblance to the worm-like monsters that Molgera from The Legend of Zelda: the Wind Waker may summon during his battle, albeit with a different mouth structure and not moving from their spot.
