Ruins (ルイン Ruins), also referred to as Patrol Bot or Sentry Bot, is a robotic security unit stationed to defend the climate control center on Fichina from any intruders until they came into contact with the Aparoids. It appears only in the Fourth Mission in the Story Mode of Star Fox Assault.

Characteristics

Their anatomy consists of a legless central body with two arms that end in pink "hands". They attack with a slam attack using these arms as hammers, akin to the Spyborg from Star Fox 64.

History

One year after the Plight of Sauria, these sentry bots were programmed to serve as security guards for the climate control center on Fichina. When the Star Fox Team arrived on the planet in the middle of their chase of Pigma Dengar, Fox entered the climate control center to switch the atmospheric program back on, getting caught by the sentry bots in the process, whom they assume Pigma had hacked in an attempt to eliminate the Star Fox team. These robots were equipped with a force field that proved very strong, strong enough to repel the firepower of all weapons at Fox's disposal (save for large-caliber weaponry such as the laser weapons on the Arwing). Whenever Fox defeated them, even more would appears and attack him. With guidance from Krystal's telepathy, the sentry bots' weak point was exposed after making their swipe attack, to which Fox used to his advantage. Eventually Falco Lombardi arrived to rescue Fox, making short work of the sentry bots using his Arwing. Slippy Toad analyzed the sentry bots, discovering that they had been infected by the Aparoids; he theorized that Aparoids had the ability to take control of bionic targets. This proved crucial to the continuing events in the war.

Trivia

• Sentry Bots appear to be much like (If not inspired by) the robotic 'Sentinels' from the Halo series, the "holy warriors" of the Forerunners in the series. A big similarity between the two is that both of them (at some point in time) came in conflict with an unknown alien parasite, The Flood for the Sentinels, and the Aparoids for the Ruins.
• If enough Ruins Sentry Bots are destroyed, a Machine Gun will be dropped, allowing Fox to hold on and better withstand their mass assault until Falco arrives to his rescue.
