Aparoids have launched a large-scale attack on the capital city of Corneria, using electromagnetic barrier devices to disrupt communications between General Pepper and his commanding officers. Mop up the barrier devices and create a window for the reduce of the capital.
—Mission objective

Radar jammers are strategic electromagnetic devices sent by the Aparoids to disrupt communications between General Pepper and all other main forces of the Cornerian military during the Aparoid Invasion of Corneria City, hence their name. This technology was so foreign, it was enough to confuse even the advanced Cornerians. Using electromagnetic technological pulses, the radar jammers severed contacts between the Star Fox team, jeopardising all plans to end the Aparoid attacks on the Lylat System. With the total loss of communications and radar, the jammers became difficult targets to find, meaning only an attack from the surface would be an effective method of diposing of them.Fox depended on his own radar and eyes to spot the jammers and could only attack them from the City streets at the urging of General Pepper. With the radar jammers destroyed, Peppy could transmit an Arwing to the City for Fox to continue the rescue of Corneria.

Description[]

Radar jammers are in place. Radar use is impossible.
ROB 64 Headshot Assault

The appearance of the radar jammers is strange, even for Aparoid kind. Each one bears six pointed fin like arms very like Starfish. The radar jammers bear honeycombed circuitry within the exposed center.

If one were to connect the edges of the radar jammer, the resultant line will create a hexagonal "honeycomb" pattern, which is the common decoration of the Aparoids.

A radar jammer through the scope.

The number of radar jammers varies, depending on the medal skill level chosen by the player. Bronze level players will only need to find six of them, while Silver levels have nine and Gold level boasts twelve. (The number increases and decreases by three). On the radar map, Radar Jammers do not bear the red circle if Fox approaches their location, instead appearing as a green blob. However, if he is far enough away from their location, they will bear the standard red target circle. No other enemy boasts this trait.

The jammers are about double the size of an Arwing and always stationed in high place spots across the city. Finding the jammers is hindered by the devices hiding behind the buildings and even within the dense smokes blowing in the wind. Fortunately, the Mission Start triggers Fox to appear next to a Sniper Rifle to help get started with the hunt. Sniper Rifles are few and far between, so using the ammo wisely on jammers and large enemies is advisable. The radar jammers boast incredibly tough armour, hence the fact only a direct hit from a Sniper Rifle to the center "eye" can destroy them. However, the jammers will not open their center until Fox looks through the scope of his rifle, meaning the Sniper Rifles slow rate of fire will leave him vulnerable to attacks made by the jammers that sending pulsing rings his way.

Although the jammers are the objective for the first half of the Mission, Fox should not compromise his own security and be mindful of enemies patrolling the streets and lurking behind the buildings. So Fox would be best to clear areas of enemies or he will be vulnerable to attacks when scoping jammers.
