Beware the red mushrooms.
ThornTail

MushGuses are cousins of the edible Blue GrubTub and White GrubTub Fungi. However, they are much larger and are not edible. This is because when any creature approaches them, the vile mushroom releases toxic spores.

Locations[]

There are many of these all over Dinosaur Planet. However, they thrive in ThornTail Hollow and the Ancient Well. If Fox inhales the spores produced by a MushGus, he will lose one quarter of a heart. Fox cannot destroy one, but can whack one with the Staff to daze it and render it dizzy for a moment.

It is likely that if one were to eat a MushGus, he or she would become very ill.

MushGus[]

Description:[]

Large, crimson mushrooms
—Star Fox Adventures; Prima's Official Strategy Guide, pg 15

Attacks:[]

If Fox wanders too close to the harmless-looking MushGuses, they emit a cloud of poisonous spores that damage anything within close proximity.
—Star Fox Adventures; Prima's Official Strategy Guide, pg 15

Tactics:[]

MushGuses are indestructible but not impassable. Hitting them with your Fire Blaster will stun them, allowing you to pass by unscathed. The poisonous spores infect only a small area, so simply run around the fungus and keep your distance.
—Star Fox Adventures; Prima's Official Strategy Guide, pg 15

Note:[]

Most of the hits Fox takes, even from the larger enemies, subtract a minimal amount from his life bar. And because healing items are so prevalent, it may be more efficient to just take the damage from an enemy like the MushGus, rather than fight it.

Trivia[]

  • MushGuses cannot bounce around to get away from predators. This is likely why they evolved toxic spores as a defense mechanism.
  • Strangely, no MushGuses are seen during Star Fox: Assault.
  • The name MushGus is a play on words that combines Mush with Fungus.
  • In the Kiosk version of the game, the MushGus had a PDA description which read; "MUSHGUS - Watch out for the deadly gas!"
