Galavos (ギャラヴォス Gyaravu~osu), also referred to as Gyaravos or Crystalline Aparoids, is a type of flying Aparoid unit that appears in three Missions in Assault.
Gameplay[]
Galavos are crystalline ships that sail and swirl into view, forming a tight cluster. Although the ships strangely pose no danger at all, they will continue to swirl together and fill the screen of the flight path, until a certain point of the course is reached. By destroying them all, a Group Bonus will be awarded. If they are all taken out in a single blast, a further Blast Bonus will be awarded.
In the game[]
Mission 1: Fortuna[]
Once the Sardes MK III S appears, it will spawn small supporting Orbs that attack in its behalf, while it charges its laser. If the Orbs are eliminated before the Prototype is downed, waves of Galavos come into view, for a bonus point chance. This, in turn, makes them the first known Aparoids to be encountered prior to the boss battle with Zegdalia.
Mission 5: Asteroid Belt[]
If the Madokite is finished off quickly enough, Galavos units may start to come into view. If the Brakes are applied and successful charge shots are made, up to five waves of Galavos will appear and up to 10-point Group Bonuses and 10-point Blast Bonuses or possibly more can be earned this way, before reaching the field of Cumes.
Mission 10: Homeworld Core[]
Once again, when the Madokite is finished off quickly enough, Galavos units will once again come into view. As many waves of Galavos will continue to appear until the next honeycombed force field wall is near.

Trivia[]
The overall appearance of Galavos looks vaguely similar to that of Galboss, a classic enemy from Namco's older arcade-based shooters like Galaxian and Galaga (which is also where the Aparoids likely draw inspiration from, considering they were made by Namco to serve as a homage to their earlier titles). Its name almost sounds similar as well.
