I'll take you guys out from the ship!
97 Shogun

The Saruzin was a large, heavily armored carrier used as a flagship by the Venomian fleet at Sector Y during the Lylat Wars.

Appearance[]

It was primarily a long flight deck with two support wings to either side and a command bridge towards the back. The Saruzin carried the Shogun warlord battlesuit and two Shogun Warrior battle suits.

In the game[]

Enemy Recon
The flagship of the Sector Y offensive is the Saruzin. Aboard is the Shogun warlord, the guardian robot that oversees Andross's galactic fleet. You can easily target the robot when it stands on the ship's deck, so attack it there before it launches itself off the runway.

The Saruzin flagship appears only in "Star Fox 64", only within the Hard Route Mission No 2:"Sector Y: Combat Zone; Fierce Melee". After beating both Shogun Warriors, the arrival of the Saruzin battleship will be triggered, where it entered the All-Range area and launches the new warlord to spar with the Star Fox Arwings. Like the Dorisbys and Grazans, the Saruzin is an invincible hazard because of the size, but the ship is unarmed so it cannot do any damage from a distance. If enough time passes, the Shogun will land on the deck of the Saruzin to try and get a better shot at Fox, which leaves the warlord more vulnerable to concentrated fire.

History[]

The Saruzin served as the flagship for the Venomian fleet during the deep space battle for Sector Y, against the Cornerian battle fleet. In the final moments of the battle, when the carrier was threatened by the Star Fox Team, who were providing backup for the overwhelmed Cornerian fleet, the Saruzin launched both Shogun Warriors first, and then the Shogun itself as a last line of defense. However, all three combat robots were defeated and the carrier was destroyed by the rescued Cornerian fleet, ending the battle and scattering the defeated Venom fleet.

Trivia[]

  • If one were to look at it solely from the front, one might notice that it resembles White Base (or as called by the Principality of Zeon, The Trojan Horse), which housed not only the Gundam, but quite a few other Mecha made during the "V Project".
  • The carrier shares similar names with the Sarumarine and "Saru" which is also the Japanese name for monkey, this makes sense that the Shogun pilot and multiple Venomians are primates, including Andross.
  • The Japanese name (サルジン) appears to be a reference to the Gwazine (グワジン) -class flagship from Gundam, which carried mobile suits.
