Aquatic Armaments
The mechanical genius of the Star Fox Team, Slippy Toad, kitbashed the Blue-Marine out of spare parts and scrap metal. Although originally intended as a recreational vehicle, it was pressed into service when the Star Fox Team was called to action on the water world of Aquas. Since some of its parts originally came from Arwings, the Blue-Marine shares some characteristics with the star fighter. For example, it has a similar laser cannon, and by rolling it can generate an electromagnetic force field. It is a testament to Slippy's engineering skill that the Blue-Marine could be made battle-worthy on such short notice. The submersible has one weakness, and this is the fact that its visual sensors were not designed to work in the darkness of great depths; it was instead designed to use sonar. Therefore, in order to see clearly in the murky abyss, the Blue-Marine must use "Light Bomb" torpedoes, of which it has an unlimited supply.

The Blue-Marine is a medium-sized, experimental, and unpredictable assault submersible designed by Slippy Toad, and constructed by Space Dynamics Co., Ltd, with help from his father Beltino Toad, for the Star Fox Team to use on the mission in Aquas in the Lylat Wars. Originally, it was designed for recreational use, but after Fox told Slippy that they were going to do a mission on Aquas that needed a submersible, Slippy and Beltino modified the submarine as an assault/attack experimental and unpredictable one for battle and war instead of the original idea of it being recreational entirely. The Blue-Marine's maximum dive is 2,000 space meters below the surface level of water, making it a powerful, destructive, and unpredictable assault submersible.

Schematics[]

Both the Landmaster and the Blue-Marine use propulsion system components originally developed for the Arwing. All three can synthesize their own hydrogen fuel for their plasma engines, giving them extended operating ranges.

Recent advancements in G-diffuser design have resulted in a more compact unit capable of generating much stronger force fields. Testing on it continues.

Origin and Design[]

Father and Son
Slippy's father, Beltino Toad, is Director of Engineering at Arspace Dynamics, and together they have adapted the Arwing's components for use in an aquatic vehicle. The impressive result is the Blue-Marine attack sub. The Blue-Marine has not yet been approved for mass production, but while there is only the one prototype in existence, it will be made available for your use in the coming battle.

The Blue-Marine features specially engineered Lasers to fire underwater in the oceans that can be upgraded to Twin or Hyper, an unlimited torpedo launcher with a built in Targeting Computer to allow for homing torpedoes, as well as light shields and heavy armor. It can boost and brake like any other vehicle the Star Fox Team uses, but the boost is a bit slower because of the water engulfing and surrounding the submarine and the brake makes the vehicle stop completely underwater, allowing it a short period of time to just go slow and easy. This craft is the most powerful, but the least maneuverable (on the most part) because it lacks All-Range Mode (as does the Landmaster). The Blue-Marine is considered slow and ungainly; it is a prime target for heavy fire by Venomian vessels and bio-weapons. Like all other vehicles used by the Star Fox team, it retains the team's emblem on its external design.

History[]

How's the Blue-Marine Fox?
97 Slippy

During the Lylat Wars, because the Cornerian Intelligence detected Andross's Empire causing havoc in the oceans of Aquas but had no resources to deal with it themselves, the experimental Blue-Marine was first (and last) used in battle on the orders of General Pepper by the Star Fox Team. There it was used to destroy the underwater bio-weapon called Bacoon who was controlling and polluting the planet. It's widely believed that when Bacoon was defeated, the pollution caused by it went away, and Aquas reverted to the way it looked before the Lylat Wars. Specifically, islands once again popped up on the surface.

In the Comic[]

The Blue-Marine appears in the Lylat Wars Comic, filling in the same role it did in the games. Fox used the Blue-Marine to clear the seas of Aquas from the mutant sea creaures and Bacoon. It is attacked by an Octopus that clings onto the hull and sticks on until the Blue-Marine returns to the Great Fox. Slippy expressed disappointment at the heavily damaged submarine, over the state of Fox.

Trivia[]

  • Arspace Dynamics is misspelled as "Arpace Dynamics" in the guide.
  • Currently there have been no announcements of any other playable appearances planned for the Blue-Marine (not counting Star Fox 64 3DS), and it is unclear if it is even still in the arsenal of the Star Fox Team. Due to the fact that it is only experimental, it may or may not reappear in later Star Fox titles. The fact that the sub had not been approved for production may have taken a hand in its disappearance.
  • In Star Fox Command, star-fighters are able to travel and engage in combat underwater. The Blue-Marine was used instead of a star-fighter in the Lylat Wars because the current generation of star-fighters was less technologically advanced. Fighters at the time of the Lylat Wars were unable to navigate underwater, or even penetrate against water like the star-fighter generation of Star Fox Command, though if the Arwing crashes into an object in the correct way, it will fall underwater, just to angle and fly back to the surface.
  • When it is launched, a massive explosion of water emerges from the lower landing bay of the Great Fox.
